SVG relative information in path element

Question

If I use percentages with the circle or rectangle element, everything works fine, but if I try to do the same with the path element it disappears... How do I bypass it?

You have to use viewBox to bypass this.

I do so at the moment, but I hoped that there is another way or at least an explenation why there is that difference
