Why tags in a string do not appear as it is?

Mainly, Php is used to produce Html format, wich is a tagged text format language... that's the principle, that these tags are not intended to be printed ( to 'appear' ) but to format their content...

If you want to print such tags, without being interpreted as language syntax, you must html escaping special characters as '<' at least ( to be replaced by '&lt;' ).
