Is it possible to be a a full stack developer without looking at other web developer scripting code to up your games?

I have rread various articles discouraging web developer from looking and imitating other developers code...instead it was claimed that this stops you or slow you down in the learning process of building your own kind of niche of codes ...I watch videos ..read PDF files and even take online classes on web development. What are the best approach to be atleast an intermediary at web development?

I see nothing wrong in looking at other developer's code. Why?
-> it widens your knowledge scope on how to solve a problem as there are many ways to go about solving a problem. Eg. I learn a lot from solving katas on codewars.com because after solving the problem with my own approach, I get to see other amazing ways people solved it.

-> it helps you to be able to work in a team because you won't be reading only your code but others too.

Summary:
When you see other people's code, don't imitate, just try to understand their thought process and approach and take whatever knowledge you didn't already have out of it.
