Is it allowed to use someone's code to make your own?

Hi! Is it allowed to use someone's code to make my own code? Because I'm doing a big project in programming (logically) and I'm using someone's code to do it, the project hasn't been released yet, and before I publish it, I'd like to ask about it. Thank you for the answer.

Yes you are allowed to do it but you must first ask from the original author. And yes you must also give him her credits in the code.
