Think of what you would like to code and just try it. Do you want to build a game or a website? Lets go! You will encounter problems and you will solve them. That's the best way from my point of view. Have you ever read a book about swimming or watched a video about bicycling? Just do it!

I also prefer video tutorials the way Jan Markus said but again some argue that it makes you not to analyze concepts on your own

First of all LEARNING is priority.-->which could be through online tutorials..,or pdfs..or whayever.
Second is the most important that is PRACTISE.-->U can practise coding using various IDEs or here in sololearn...
It all depends on how determined U are...

Videos. Scientifically as videos have 'moving objects' that capture the eye and interest the viewer. Thus we prefer watching videos than reading tutorials. But basically, it's up to you. I don't exactly watch videos but rather go online and search for tutorials. One of my favourite is learncpp.com! It teaches C++ in great detail and isn't naggy. It also has good tips and stuff! But, other than that, is to PRACTICE! Or else, half the time you think you remember it, the next you don't even know the concept anymore! By practicing and revising, you are helping yourself shift that information into the long-term memory 'database' in your brain! Thus, you can choose! Whether to watch vids, read tuts, or get tutored by a teacher.
Here are some good tutorial/places to learn coding:
Khan Academy
SoloLearn
Envato Tuts+
Tutorials Point
learncpp.com
HTML Dog
The New Boston - Youtube
Code with Harry - YouTube
Prometheus Coding - YouTube (He is also in SL!)
(By Trupti Gangakhedkar):
w3schools by w3c
codeforge

In my opinion, you should go ahead with tutorials as books or videos and just consider it as a part of your learning process without forgetting that practicing is a very important part too.

You have been knowing about hit and trial methods in maths. It's the best way to do coding by taking some problem and try to solve it.

learn basic concept and syntax from anywhere you want...what matters is only practice.

Advise you dont use book. Use youtube

I think books can provide way of thinking for programming besides syntax.

For me pdf materials because it has got source codes, write step by step

I think Books and Video tutorials are best. If you want to learn from books then Yashvant Kanetkar's books are best and if you want to learn from videos the Edureka YouTube channel.

{The Piqued Learner} you can add w3schools and codeforge to the list i think so..
