Is it really helpful to use some framework like codeigniter or laravel for project purpose?

For a project in my college, I thought to develope a online platform for some stuff.
I am.familiar to Html css and js, but someone suggested us to go for pHp as it will be a lot easier. Now the thing is that, I am little confused about using framework or go for direct coding.

frameworks come with a set of prebuilt functionalities to help you skip common or repetitive tasks, in general they'll save you a lot of time

you need to walk before you can run, so you'll always need some basics on php, but to handle routing, db connections and the like it's better to just relay on a framework
