What is your profession? And why do you sololearn?

I work as a marine engineer, making control systems for generators and alarm systems. I make programs in PLC on a daily basis, but want to get more into general coding.

in a marine environment you may prefere java to python, as network availability to download python is not ubiquitous and usually computers on board come with jre preinstalled. Also tampering with the shipboard computers, using administrator rights, will lead any blame on you at the first hardware failure. Computers on ships (unless specifically designed for a marine environment tend to last between 2and 3 years due to vibrations, improper maintenance, moisture, frequent voltage/current spikes). Java is a lower profile approach that will avoid you some troubles;) If you want to hack some hardware ship's stores are usually full of dimissed hardware waiting for a creative mind...
