Getting that first step into almost any field is difficult. Maybe you should develop your skills further, build your portfolio, not just in size but in quality and relevance and see if you can publish it (like on Github) for others to take notice.
Often, there's a lot of leg work, but if you're determined, you know your end goal and it's worth it.
