True story, I once got in trouble for using knowledge that my teacher didn't cover in class. He thought I cheated and failed me. I had to go to summer school because of it. I guess he forgot that libraries exist! I was just trying to get extra credit, but ended up with a lot more work.

eli 's teacher is a time traveller from the medieval era....😁. Teaching by reinforcement is better than teaching by punishment.
Anyway, teaching should inspire, not dampen enthusiasm with rote, by the numbers method.
Students should explore, not endure.

Too bad. Teachers like these need to go back to school. They drain the joy and motivation out of learning. I luckily never met any of those and instead get encouraged to explore beyond the lessons. Some of my teachers would give optional extra hard assignments for bonus points just to test our motivation. School was never scary or boring.
