How do challanges work?

How is XP you can win / lose calculated? It can go every where between 3 and ~30 xp, but I don't get the calculation. It seems not to be enemy level dependent. Then again, if I start challenge, it says ie "To win: 7xp". If i win, I only get those 7, but if I lose it's suddenly 24xp!! It happens very often to me. So I always win few fights and get like 2,3,5,7 xp and if I lose once.. BOOM minus 20+ xp. It really drives me crazy atm. Is this a bug or what is going on? It's not fair at all sololearn...

It's not at all a bug , it's a feature which is really bad.
You get xp according to your level. If you challenge a high level player and even if you lose you may get some amount of xp and if you lose against a low level player then you lose xp maybe 20 to 32. It varies according to level.
For me it's +1xp for a win and -32xp if I lose.
