Does python and C use interchangeable code? A sort of mutual intelligibility?

there are ways to connect some C code to python. this can be useful for heavy calculations. In general C is faster to run, but Python is faster to write. they use this approach on the supercomputer at our university and it helps them optimize their own working efficiency and the efficiency of the computer.
