What is the difference between html 4 and 5?

Html4 was the previous version ( 4.01 exactly ^^ )...
It's still supported by browsers for compatibility with older sites, but you're not supposed ( and not advised ) to use it today :P

Anyway, previous versions of Html share a lot of their rules with next versions, so Html5 brings a lot of powerfull and usefull enhancements, while deprecate a few things from previous versions: learning Html4 can be consider as learning the basics of Html5 ;)
