How to be efficient at using Linux? I'm a bit scared of the command prompt window.

I'm a Windows user ever since I started using computers, I need to b good at using Linux as all the work in our company is done on Ubuntu. Please guide.

You can use linux commands on windows. Install git, and use git bash tool for practice. That way you may feel less intimidated. Start with simple commands like creating folders on desktop (mkdir), moving files (mv), removing files (rm), navigating (cd) etc

If you're going to install Linux as a first timer, and former Windows user, I'd recommend Linux Mint. Droste's suggestion is also good.

I'd also go for Linux Mint but if you need Ubuntu as it is work related, just dual boot it on your windows machine. There are many free books tutorials available about command line and shell scripting. Be ready to learn the most on your machine as I doubt that at your work, they let you access root priviledges.

If you are first time user of linux. Don't hesitate to use commands nothing bad is going to happen. There is always a solution for every thing. Just make sure you created system restore point.
