Do we really need to set "/" in autoclosing tags like <br>? And what are these tags called which dont have ending tags?

No, it is not necessary to put a forward slash </> in autoclosing tags even some tags like <p> and <h> can work without ending tag(try yourself!) however this practice is good as it is easy to understand moreover it the code written so also become readable by XML compilers.
