a beginner should start learning C language and then go for C++and JAVA so that you clear your OOPS concept
refer good books... you can download free pdf of books of authors E.Balagurusamy or Herbert Schidlt or learn it on SoloaLearn.
then when you gain enough confidence then start competetive programming on Codechef or Hackerearth
