What is scss?

Question

I've heard that it is a superset of css3 and also it is a variation of a scripting language called Sassy Script.
I am little bit confused can anybody please clarify...

scss is a preprocessor which allows u to use some more functions than simple CSS. Its better to use SCSS for bigger apps.
