if my opponent does not participate in challenge, does this mean no one wins? Do you have to get all questions correctly to win?

You will lose XP based on your experience on the particular weapon and on your opponents experience. And on the questions you answered correctly (there's a correct answers bonus).

When a challenge expires or is declined it is not completed, so it doesn't count as a win, lost or draw.
You have to answer more questions correctly than your opponent does to win. If you and your opponent answered the same amount of questions correctly, it's a draw.

Losing sometimes costs xp, but more often than not you walk away with some still because of the bonus xp.
