Why is <br/> tag used in tables..?

the break tag used to break the line or para.. so how can we use it in tables. plz explain?

<br /> can be used nowhere, as it's invalid syntax, and should be write <br> and nothing else :P

And more accuratly, it can appear in table cell (<td> table data element, wich handle table content as a <p> or any <div>), not as direct child in <table> element ^^ "the break tag used to break the line or para..." means break the text content of any html element allowed to have one, not specifically the <p> element content ;)
