Should I get a computer science degree?

I really like coding, and I want to get a food reputation in coding so i can firstly become a freelance programmer, and secondly start my own businesses-which may require some coding. I am working on a degree in liberal arts, and then I want to study business law, and then business... so can I get away with doing coding on the side of all this? do I need a degree? how useful is a degree?

No harm getting one. Most jobs require at least a degree or an equivalent - You can try your best without one and it may still work out (presenting your past projects and stuff, convincing your clients about your skills, etc). It's just a matter of the process.

Food reputation (in coding)! I don't know what is that... but sounds cool!! :-D Upd: I think having that reputation I can earn money for food with coding or... will work for food. ;)

BTW, I'm not sure that in your specific case degree in CS would be effective enough to spend money/time on it. It wouldn't worth it if you are not going to get a job (as a dev) in large-big company... Probably self-learning would be enough to get basics in this specific domain before business... But it's only IMHO. Upd: And also(!) quality of educationg may differ. For example in my country any non capital Univercities definitely won't worth the time spent! Educational programms are mostly awfull and outdated and... just "no! thanks". It's a pity btw. :-( A pain in... you know were it hurts. (I'm jobless for a long time with a degree of local univercity).
