Max width understanding problem

Question

So i know that css supports max-width: ;
but when i set the max width to 200px or something why does my text that is longer than 200px make that the whole body becomes more than my 200px that i set?

its a little bit confusing.

anybody can make a code example how i should do that?
and by the whay if it works that the text isnt longer than 200px how can i make the text automaticly becomes a new line every single time its longer than 200px?
