Does XP tempt you to get more?

I believe XPs show our potential, but do you feel tempted to get more XPs and move up in the leaderboard? Do you check the leaderboard often?

Yep, just because i recently reached the global top 10.

The XPs system is fun, i like to challenge users, but be in the first positions in the leaderboard does not mean you are a good programmer, at the moment challenges are never updated and quizzes are always the same, you can easily memorize almost all quizzes and reach the first positions in no time.

The only way to improve yourself is learn and practice as much as you can, take Sololearn in your "break time" only! ^^

Personally no, it's not tempting to me :) I could easily be #1 in my country every month if I wanted to, since there aren't many salvadoreans in this platform, it would require very little effort from me, like playing a few challenges a month. But I'm not here for xp nor medals, I'm happy to help others with questions or codes instead and I don't mind not getting xp for that☺ actually, I'm not even pursuing platinum because I feel like it should be earned differently. I think it would be cool to know the % of XP origin. For instance, a Platinum member needs to have at least 20k xp, but where did that xp come from? Recent Platinum members I've seen reached 20k only by playing challenges and some of them got no codes nor lessons completed, so maybe they should have a Challenger medal since 100% of their XP came from challenges. There could be different medals based on your % of xp origin like: Contributor medal, Challenger medal, Coder medal or Learner medal depending on what % of those areas predominates on your xp. Just an idea☺

nope.
I'm not a challenge-doer...
today I checked it for the first time in couple months and found 75-76 platinum members... that is like +60 from my prev. leaderboard check.

I also agree with my colleagues that written upper. Experience doesn't mean anything. In Russia we have such direction as olimpic programming. And guys who earn high score there can reach here top positions very quickly and win most of participants, but in real projects and companies most of them can't do good, scalable, smart stuff in the beginning of their carriers. They haven't got other experience which is necessary for important and serious products with smart business-logic in real life.
But scoring system in SoloLearn also important. It motivates us to making cool things and helping each other!

Yes it makes me get more, I check the leaderboards frequently and once got Global top 2 on my former account

Rankings: The only thing I see regularly is country percentage (because it's right there), from which I guess when SoloLearn experiences user base adjustments. Sometimes I tap to see who's getting attention...and wonder how much effect ranking has on coding.

Q&A: It varies. I've had 'best answer' switched to me a couple times when all I'm doing is helping the person who went out and deservedly got 'best' for figuring it out. I don't like that; sometimes I wish I could select a box reading "This response is ineligible for best answer" (I've also gone out to the person's profile to upvote/contribute when it happens).

Also, some questions feel planted -- like... to occupy community members; @Maz is pretty good at pointing out direct copies from other forums. That's made me a little more selective for code-active users (and it's historically why I preferred spending time in invisible code comments before they became part of the voting system; they're more likely actively learning).

Downvotes... to me are one way of seeing what interpretations might be in play (like with security codes).

So no...while I do notice the points, I don't always use them the way they're structured.

Maybe to start with, but once the courses are out of the way, the only way to gain xp is to spam the q&a or challenges, neither or which really appeal to me.
