jre has the jvm bundled inside of it. it is responsible for running java. while the jvm is responsible for converting java into java byte code.

JDK= JRE + DEVELOPMENT TOOLS;
(JDk provides Environment to Develop and Run the program)
JRE=JVM+ LIBRARY CLASSES
(JRE provides Environment Only to Run the Program)
