Linux experts please help

Question

I bought a new laptop and I thought of installing a Linux OS to it.. my friends are like don't put Linux keep windows in Linux I can't download everything that I want.. is It true ? I thought of doing a dual boot .. what do You'll think ? please help..

As long as you know what you're doing, dual-booting is a pretty good idea if you plan to keep using applications that are only compatible with Windows. Just remember that Windows and Linux will each take up their own space on your hard disk.

I am actually having a Windows Desktop with Windows 7 installed

That's because I am a student, and School curriculum is based on Windows.

I keep a Linux Live CD when I feel like doing Linux...
