Java is utilized for Android app development, and XML for the UI. If you just want to get your feet wet, I would recommend some knowledge of Java, but there is no need for a lot of XML. I am not dismissing the value of learning some XML - but you are provided with a basic graphical UI editor. (If you are using Android Studio, my recommended IDE) I am also aware that C++ can be used in some cases, but have never used it on Android. Feel free to research it as well! it depends on your project. if you want to develop complex apps like instagram go for java. it is a native language for android apps. if you want to make simple apps like weather apps. go for javascript and jquery mobile. you can also make apps using Xamarin C#. if you want make games u can use Unity3D using C#
