it depends on the task you want to do , if you want to be a front end developer , it's definitely JS because there's no other option
if you wanna be a back-end developer most in demand is Java , but I recommend Nodejs , because it works with JavaScript , so when you Learn JavaScript you can be a full stack web developer , writing apps both for server and client

not over yet! JS is also available in the Mobile phone as well , with React Native you can code in JS and have an iOs or Android application Natively
and also with Electron framework you are able to create applications for desktops
so basically JS is the best option in my opinion
because it's one stone and 4 birds !

but of course there are a ton of different technologies each one of them has a different feature
