Javascript is great, at least until you learn jQuery/Angular/React instead, and then vanilla Javascript becomes more of an nuisance. However, it's not exactly the best place for a web developer that's a beginner to start his learning, since he'll want to fully grasp the concepts of HTML5 and CSS3 before focusing upon Javascript or whichever server-side language he wants to learn.

Java and C# are great languages to start with.

If you're focused on web development instead, I'd start with HTML/CSS/JavaScript/PHP or NodeJS, and then move forward from there.
