Should the internet be taken down?

Question

There have been people saying the internet is not a safe place at all, which is true.. to some extent..
computers were never created for the internet, and because of it there are so many cyber attacks, if the worst comes to the worst we could loose our earth.
Should the internet be taken down? Or should we let this mayhem continue?

(I do not want it to be taken down personally but I'd love to see what everyone's thoughts are on this subject, Thank you)

Even before the internet we had the capability of destroying ourselves many times over. The internet has not increased this threat

If that is so, then internet is not the problem in the first place. It is a contradiction to your own claims.

It's not the internet that should be taken down
(if it wasn't for the internet our civilization may not have advanced this much. it's the best innovation after computers) but rather the privacy invaders. who take unnecessary data think trackers, adware, and the like.

it should go without saying while your data should be your right you have to give it; else you can't use much of the services online.

Your saying about the mayhem, is more like companies failing to secure your information than cyber criminals being highly skilled (though they are).

do you not go outside your house, because there are criminals in the world? should we shut down everything and live in concrete houses to safeguard against outside hazards like terrorists, accidents?

the world you perceive depends on your perception to someone it may be a beautiful place he ever lives; to someone it may be the end.
it's similar to the internet use and apply common sense you should be mostly good.

You are saying that you think problems of the internet are problems, but the internet itself is not the problem? Rethink it again, you say that the government is spying on us through the internet, but without the internet, the government also holds our information, so what is the relevance of the internet in this topic?

It is simply impossible to "half-share" something online. Whatever information you throw about yourself into (and onto) the net ends up everywhere, and yes, you have these "rights" to know what is going on, but how are you going to achieve it, especially on the internet (which is not a safe place at all, as you have pointed out)? Fact is, you can't, and hence the humans should be educated to actually not share what they would regret sharing later.

It's very unlikely to rollback the technologies made available to everyone as that's contribute to the efficiency in today's world.

I still remember back in the time when Google Map was first launched and everyone critiques about its open initiative and worried if it allows criminals to plan the escape routes ahead of time.

Knowledge can be misused or abused but the good thing is we have more good guys compared to the bad guys so overall the knowledge contributes positively and all we need is more regulations without jeopardizing our freedom.

P/S: We live in a world where suckers are born every minute and it's inevitable regardless online or offline.

Methinks the idea that "you won't have cyber attacks if you don't use the internet, and hence it solves your problems" requires some bugfix. It is akin to saying that you won't have problems with water shortage if you don't use water in the first place.

Seeing that privacy is a lie from the beginning - For one, I do not see myself so important as to have the government oversee everything I do, and even if that is true, I have nothing in particular to hide, at least, not what I disclose online, and thus I am not afraid of mails and ads showing up with information that I have already disclosed earlier, because that is how the flow of information work.

Would the net be a better place without any oversee? Perhaps, but did such oversee cause a huge effect in the first place?

The internet is a major contributor to modern society's advancement because of a plethora of data and instant communication at our fingertips. Shutting down the internet would be devastating to many companies and people around the world that rely on it

Internet is one of the key stones of Information Age, currently the greatest age in which we live. Free flow of information has countless great benefits to the improvement of our life and our society at large. If you say that data theft is an Internet-related problem, you should perhaps study for yourself the history of computer crimes which goes back to the era of Wargames during which Internet is still a military secret. Wikipedia should be your best friend, not schizo conspiracy-theorist. Dismantling the Internet is equivalent to dismantling the electricity and going back to pre-Industrial Age. So please do first some research on your own before asking this sort of question.. As for the government spying on you, they don't really need the Internet, they will use your neighbours or your employers;-)

I never said it was the problem, I was simply asking for others opinions on this subject. I gave examples of problems with the internet, that did not mean I think it's the problem.

Yeah, shut it down. Right from the start, the Internet was not intended for disabled 13-year-olds hanging around in the social media. It was meant to exchange information among scientists and not make the children even stupider than they already are. 96% of the world's population doesn't even know what HTTPS is. The only thing they know about HTTPS is that it is "secure" and "encrypted". Stupid as hell. You should take the mobile phone away from the children so that they don't spread so much rubbish anymore.
