Why does (a) not aqual any thing in this code ?

Can someone explain this code to me....
class ReverseNumberDemo
{ public static void main(String args[]) {
int num=123456789;
int reversenum =0;
while( num != 0 ) {
reversenum = reversenum * 10;
reversenum = reversenum + num%10;
num = num/10; }
System.out.println("Reverse of specified number is: "+reversenum);
}
}
the thing I don't get is the reversenum part......isn't reversenum=0 so wouldn't reversenum*10=0

anyone help me pls, i do what the install step said but somehow when i open the cmd, and tap java ( also javac later ) but nothing happen, i thing i may go wrong with the environment step

I got the IDLE on my windows 8 and am trying to run else if not (1+1==3): and the shell is highlighting else in red and telling me invalid syntax. Is there any thing wrong with the code? Its on learn Python
