I did the machine learning course on Coursera. In that course you don't learn database handling. And I quickly lost control of my files, so that was no fun.
The sql course doesn't learn you database modelling, but it is a good enough help for data cleaning and data preparation.
I'd say if you can spare a couple of hours: do the SQL lessons.
