Why isn't this code working?

Question

If a four digit number is input through the keyboard, write a program to obtain the sum of the first and last digit of the number.

but it's not giving the exact answer. Please can someone explain why it's not working and also the correct program for the question

If you don't use any curly braces { } after if statement, then only one line will be executed when the condition will be true. So the "continue" keyword is being executed in all cases. Using curly braces may solve this issue.
