It's trending the most now because more people (typically newer generation) are getting into programming and most people want the easy route with it instead of dealing with difficulty, so Python is appealing to them.

I'm not saying Python isn't useful though, so don't get me wrong. It's as useful as it always was. It's just a surge in programming/technology interest and most people don't like things to be difficult these days. That's why you also see the same question posted in the Q&A about how long it takes or an easy way to do it, etc... New generations became soft compared to the older generations that had good work ethics. It is what it is. :D

Maybe because Python is accessible for everyone, developers and non-developers, because it's one of the easiest langage to learn.

Even if it's old, there are many updates and it exists now many modules to do quite everything with it. (tasks automation for example, or simples but useful apps)

Another reason : processors are now speed enough so that python can run quite quickly.
