Is it better to stick with C# and Ruby?

No, developing games in those languages are just fine, look at unity for example. I can't speak for ruby but there's plenty of games made with c#, especially 2D. C# is in such a big progression phase right now that you don't really have to worry about sticking with it because Microsoft is doing a lot to make sure it stays relevant in the industry. Although, learning C++ basics will be recommended as it's used by the majority, specially in triple A titles, but that's mostly because it's a niche to use C++ and not because it's less or more good in some way. What you should focus a lot on is improving your math skills and understanding things like XNA, Direct X and other graphical frameworks.
