Ransomware Outbreak

Not sure if this is an appropriate Q&A post (sorry in advance if it isn't) but is keeping Windows patches up to date all that's​ needed to keep the WanaCrypt0r 2.0 out? If so, seems like an awful lot of folks don't have up to date patches. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/39901382

Just by reading about how the WanaCry works, yeah it doesn't look like thaaat big of a deal (Easy to avoid). If you download it windows probably isn't going to stop anything though. The spam folder in your email should do the job for emails, ad block for ads, and a brain for text messages. You could probably also use a DataRecovery program if you get out smarted. PS: I love how some articles have a "symptoms" section as if this is a disease lel.
