Python's extensive library supply makes it the best at mathematical programming.... It is mostly used in scientific programming because of its 'less code' and 'more results' like the numpy and scipy or matplotlib modules and for web scraping it has an extensive hand like scrapy, BeautifulSoup and mechanizer modules.... Its really the best but there are areas where it lacks, like impressive GUI Design and Gaming....

Python is probably the most versatile language I know of. It's often used for server code and runtime scripts in larger applications like games. But it can also be used as a systems language to create full applications much like C++ and Java are used for. Hell, I've even seen it used for build scripts via scons.
