What if i don't know java and started learning kotlin? Would i understand kotlin?

Depends on how well you understand Python. The more you understand any language the more it helps with the next. You don't need Java for Kotlin. But, without some other language knowledge, it will not be easy.

I suggest that you start Java first , then you would find Kotlin much easier to understand ........
