Creating a visual novel using HTML,CSS and JavaScript

Hi there, I am currently working an a project to create a choose your own adventure visual novel game using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I have all the JavaScript for text done but I am unsure on how to add images and how to make them change scenes along with the users choices.
