I fail to see when one would use the overflow value of hidden. Can anyone tell me?

A slideshow, a carousel, round corners, a lot of visual widgets use it, if you set a fixed size in a div an it contains an image, the image could be more big so you have to use overflow:hidden, the image of your avatar is round because of overflow:hidden.
