Hi Abi. Something that I use to say to everyone is::: READ THE DOCUMENTATION OF EVERYTHING YOU WILL USE IN YOUR PROJECT.
Wordpress has a really rich documentation that will help you to understand and develop your site. U can also use the Bootstrap to make your work easier and PHP to add all functions that wordpress requires.
