Should i be an expert in java to learn android?

Question

I started learning java 8 for a while with a goal in mind to begin learning android mobile development.

So, what kind of level and skills do I need to keep my learning experience smooth?

Core Java is more than enough to learn Android mobile development and after learning core Java you can easily grasp the concepts of Android

Yes only basics of oops are required but if you complete core Java it will be more easy for you to learn the concepts of Android .Also for interface you require to learn xml which you can learn in parallel easily.

After a little while on google, I found out that only the basics of the language and an intro to object oriented programming are required
it should be somewhat easy to follow android courses
