And maybe before you master the tools (hammer and saw) you could understand the problem (build the roof) and the materials (wood) you have available. Machine learning and AI are great buzzwords, but in the end you need to know what you wish to do, for then select the proper tools. You wish to classify images of good and bad fishes in an assembly line, find "out of spec." products after manufacturing, predict failure rates for television screens, decide what patient shall get into ITU, play chess, drive cars, etc? Every problem I just cited uses a complete different set of tools. In such cases using the perspective of "what problem the customer has that I need to solve?" is always a good start.
