Between Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, it IS the future. Everything in modern societies is about to change drastically because of it in the next 5-10 years. If you think about it, it wasn't that long ago that we didn't have smart phones (barely a decade). AR/VR is going to make the same type of impact that smartphones did, but on a much grander scope of what it can do. Anyways, if you're curious if you should get into AR/VR, then yes you should. It's the future and where all of the money is going to be before long. If I had money to invest into stocks, that's where my money would be.

Until today, augmented reality has found more success in the consumer space compared to virtual reality. There have been several applications with AR, and hardware devices such as the Google Glass, that make AR more popular and usable. Also, it is more useful in different spheres of life.
