It is hard to know what you did there. Here it looks and works fine. Maybe a problem with the indentation?

(Side remark: You need another case for 0 with is neither pos nor neg.)

ok I think i have it working in this IDE however in jupyter it is returning the num1 and the if else any thoughts

Well the requirement was 0 down is negative I get the lack of understanding. That awnser still got a fail from my professor
