Check out Head First Java. This is a great starting point. It's a little outdated but still relevant today. Head First Object-Oriented Analysis & Design is also great for developing your understanding of Object Oriented Programming, which is the type of programming you'll see in Java, as well as C++, Python, and many others. If you have the money I would purchase the OCA(Oracle Certified Associates) Java SE 8 Programmer 1 Study Guide. It comes with tons of multiple choice questions to test your knowledge of the material. Personally I started with Java for Dummies. There any many books for beginners in Java, and all of them will have relevant information. Just choose one and start reading!
