"A" is for "anchor", "HREF" is for "hypertext reference" Source: https://www.w3.org/Provider/ServerWriter.html Hopefully this settles it...

@Jafca: Yes ;) Strictly, it's probably more true to say that an hyperlink is an hypertext reference, so to say 'hyperlink reference' would be redundant :P
