A little programming makes your life a lot easier, if you are a manager or have your own company. It is useful to know some tricks, so that you didn't have to spend hours on summarizing data manually.

without programming is common to use a computer as a substitute of a typewriter. with programming you use the computer for what is meant to do and the possibilities are endless.

I agree with @Andre van Rensburg. Programming isn't so much a computer skill as it is a way of thinking. To know how to program is to know how to problem solve. That's one of the earliest and biggest parts of human development.
