To add, you're going to need some degree of passion.

If you really want to be a freelancer you need a good bit of experience in the requested language. Python and Java are the most popular from what I've seen.

So, the best place to start is to get a solid foundation on whichever language you choose, then moving upwards from there. Getting certifications, and continuing to further your knowledge of your given language.

As a warning, freelance work in general is patchy. Sometimes you can find 2,000$+ gigs. Other times you'll have it rough finding anything in your chosen language at all.
