If you want to be an Android developer then learn Android :) I don't understand why you wrote Java FX, Swing or Applet then.

No, Android development and Java Gui development are totally different. Android java API is a bit different than standard Java API. Even an Android app doesn't execute on Java VM but Davlik VM.

So if you want to develop for Android, please learn Android.

Java Swing and Applet are deprecated. The first is for desktop, the second is for web. You should choose what do you want to do, desktop, server, mobile programming or something else. I don't think you can be professional in every area.

if learning android, java is important to understand as the syntax is the same, just a different api, i would however learn as much into Java 8 and 9 (out this year) as possible, i hear that android could be changing from using jack (their current build compiler for DVM) to a true java build, so knowing both will become important in the near future
