I think many people have asked this question before you and if you took a look at the most popular questions, you'd find some recent answers. This question also depends on what you want to do! Web developers need: - HTML5 (Frontend) - CSS (Frontend) - JavaScript (Frontend) - PHP (Backend) - SQL (Backend, with PHP) And web developers should also get an idea of: json, xml ... But there's other stuff you can use for web development complementarily such as JQuerry... Python also has projects such as "Django" which allow you to kinda replace PHP and make really awesome web applications .etc Note: I am not a web developer so this is only basic knowledge, and my knowledge has not been verified. Computer Software: - C++ Is commonly used. - C# being part of the .NET Microsoft suit - ... Java? (Commonly used... but more in Android by now... Computer Science courses still teach it lots though) Scripting languages like "Python" are popular now, but there are also older and famous scripting languages... "Lua" is used in Garry's Mod and other videogames that appear on Steam, and surely on more stuff too... "Perl" was used back in the old days, but I kinda didn't hear anything about it recently. TL;DR: C languages are very commonly used, but are considered harder to start learning with. Many computer science courses start with Java, which nowadays is mostly used in Android but still finds support everywhere. For web page development, you'll need to learn several languages that I have stated earlier. Some computer science courses start with teaching "Python" to introduce students to the IT world, and Python is used in multitude of services nowadays... including GOOGLE products (Youtube for example), Steam... Reddit too I think... well you get the idea.
