Do you know the syllabus? Do a short online course on whatever language they'll teach in 1st semester. There's a high possibility you'll be tought C fitst. If so, you can read a book on C. 'Learn C the hard way' is an excellent book for both beginners and pros.

depends what they're planning on teaching you first. While it's possible they could teach you first C, they might start with easier languages like Python, since my university for example completely revamped all it's courses to allow for python programming in the first year. It's easier to understand the fundamentals, which is why they moved away from C languages for all 1st years here. They will tell you what you'll need on the syllabus (course outline). Besides that, only thing you can do to prep is make sure youre ready to go with pens, paper, etc. I thought on my first CMPT class I was ready after reading up on it beforehand, but they'll usually prepare you themselves. Don't be nervous. It'll be fine. You could get a grasp on some programming by doing some courses in Sololearn. At least you'll have an idea what you're getting into. My CMPT didn't do any programming for the first 2 weeks. We spent most of it learning puedocode and understanding how a computer differs from humans in terms of instructions.
