What language is recommended for server side scripting?

I want to take php a step forward, but i don't know how popular and useful it will be in the future (assuming we survive the world war 3 nuclear war)

Yes, PHP is now number one server side language. But, many modern entity use ruby... who was slow in server side. Less than python but slow. And now, we have node.js. Fast like last version of PHP, no blocking execution... And in JavaScript!

Full stack JS is the futur. And, if you want work long time... not many choises.

I guess it's up to you to choose between php and node.js

python + server = slow has hell !

Php and node.js are very powerful. Try both. You can also using python to make your server but I don't know what python server can do (if it's easy or not for example) .
